10 EASY Videos to Weave the Adirondack Backpack

Jill Choate | Jill Choate Basketry

The Large Adirondack Backpack was on my weaving bucket list for YEARS.  It was one of those I'd LOVE to do this but I knew I couldn't get it right.  That was until I ran into Janet Greenhoe on a basket tour.

Janet told me, "Jill, if you will take me salmon fishing, I will show you the way of backpacks".  Well, since I lived in Talkeetna, AK at the time all I needed was an excuse to go fishing.  It was a glorious day and we limited out our catch of silver salmon.   I was the one to score big time however as Janet presented me with a hand woven backpack. The biggest gift however was the pattern on how to weave the backpack.

Since then I've woven a LOT of backpacks and taught a LOT of students how to do so too.  The secret to weaving an Adirondack backpack is in the tape measure.

We break down the process in these 18 EASY VIDEOS so that your next backpack is super easy to weave up.

We've located them all on our YOUTUBE channel on a playlist for ease in accessing any problem area that you may need help with.

You can access it by CLICKING HERE.

Here's just a preview of one video:

There you have it!  A beautiful, hand crafted, backpack that you'll have to use for forages into the forest and display at the cabin when not in use.

This video series is fantastic. I’ve been making/teaching pack baskets for six years, and was looking for some new inspiration and tips, when I happened upon your videos. Fantastic. Oh, AND, I live about ten minutes from Western Pleasure. Small world!

Hi,

I just received my kit to make the large pack basket. I am so excited! I have watched all the videos regarding this basket however, I have never done a false rim. Is there a video for finishing the basket or is it the same as any other basket?

Thank you,
Heidi
P.S. Thank you for the Tootsie rolls!!! What a sweet surprise!
